NEWS OF MOROCCO

Morocco determined to attract more German tourists

Agadir - Different national tourism players benefited from the presence of over 1000 travel agents and tour operators in Agadir, where they held their annual congress, to reaffirm Morocco's determination to attract more German tourists.
"In recent years, Morocco has been endeavoring, in an active and dynamic way, to promote its destination in the European continent, notably in Germany,” said Morocco’s Tourism and Handicrafts Minister, Yassir Znagui.

The Minister underlined the importance of the congress, held under the high patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, saying that the event “represents for us an excellent opportunity to present tourism assets in the city, the region and Morocco as a whole to German travel agents, tour operators and the press.”

He ascribed the 7% rise in tourism arrivals in the beginning of the year to the promotional and communication campaigns, the launch by Morocco’s flag carrier RAM of new direct flights linking Marrakech and Agadir to major German cities and the enhancement of hotel and tourism services.

For their parts, officials from Morocco’s national tourism Office and RAM in addition to the Wali of Souss-Massa-Draa region, presented to the German professionals the tourism development strategy for the region and the available means to set up win-win partnerships with German travel operators.

Opening of Morocco Day at Shanghai World Expo 2010

Shanghai – Morocco’s Lower House Speaker, Abdelouahed Radi, has arrived in Shanghai, on Wednesday, to participate in the opening of Morocco National Pavilion Day at Shanghai World Expo slated on Thursday.

Shanghai World Expo, which started on Mai 1st and will continue till October 31st under the theme “Better city, better life”, is bringing together 192 countries and 50 international organizations.

Morocco Pavilion at the expo spans over 4000 m2 and represents different aspect of the Moroccan culture.

Inside Morocco National Pavilion

Building Morocco Pavilion lasted over a year, during which master Moroccan craftsmen travelled to Shanghai to give the pavilion its authentic Moroccan identity.

The pavilion comprises three halls. The first hall is dedicated to the Art of Living in Moroccan cities (culinary art, customs and housing); the second hall introduces, through audiovisual technical means, the richness of Morocco’s cultural heritage and handicrafts, while the third one exhibits the achievements made by the kingdom in several fields.

Morocco Pavilion, dubbed “the palace of one thousand and one nights” by the Chinese media, is witnessing a huge turnout, with more than 6000 visitors per day.

IS MOHAMMED VI AN ABSOLUTE MONARCH?

Nine years have passed already, and the tenth is in keeping with the same general ethos, that of a Morocco which has resolutely written itself into a forward movement both irresistible and irreversible. This is the Morocco of Mohammed VI whose influence is evident at every level in the life of the nation.
